James H Smith

James Hubert (Jim) Smith of Hardy was born on November 29, 1915, the son of George A. and Effie (James) Smith.  On December 26, 2009, at the age of 94, he went to be with his Lord and join loved ones who had gone on before, including his beloved wife of 70 years, Theresa (Frailey) Smith.

Jim had a great love for his God, family, and fellow man.  Everywhere life took him, he made friends.  A great joy in his life was being a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.

Before retiring as a real estate broker, he had various jobs including operating a saw mill, farming, and carpentry.  He enjoyed raising and training registered dogs and had a passion for hunting.

He is survived by: two sons, Wayne (Norma) Smith, and Hubert (Caroline) Smith, both of Cedar Hill, TX; three daughters, Nadine (Jon) Bussard of Mountain Home, Judy (Stan) Whitson of Fairhope, AL, and Jeanie (Billy) Wilson of Caulfield, MO; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geneva Newsom and Laverne (Bill) Davenport both of Hardy.  He was preceded in death by: his wife, Theresa; his parents, George and Effie Smith; two brothers, Leslie Howard Smith and George Walter Smith; a sister, Marie Luker; and a son-in-law, Duane Brandon.

Funeral services will be held at New Hope Baptist Church, Highway 175, on Monday, December 28 with Bro. Troy Harvey officiating.  Music for the service will be provided by Rita Beeman and Pat Utley. Burial will be in McCollough Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be David Brandon, Jeremy Wilson, Adam Morgan, Dale Davenport, Mark Smith, and Russell Bassham.

Memorials may be to New Hope Baptist Church.

My heart felt sympathy goes out to the entire Smith Family. Jim was a major blessing and influence in my life.He introduced me to God when I was a young child and set a wonderful example for me to follow. I have so many happy memories of riding to Church in the back of that log truck.
