Joe Mitchell

Mr. Joe Alvin Mitchell, age 81, of Cherokee Village, died Monday, June 7, 2010, at Hospice House in Mountain Home. Joe Mitchell was born on September 6, 1928 in Marianna, AR and grew up in Lula, MS. He graduated from Lula High School in 1947 and joined the Air Force in 1948, he attended the US Air Force Academy located in Langley, VA. While in the Air Force he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Joe retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service; he also retired from the Arkla Chemical Company.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wilma Faye Mitchell of Cherokee Village; a son and 22 year Air Force Veteran, Robert Mitchell of San Antonio, TX; two step Daughters, Cheryl Byrns and Theresa Schauf both of Wichita, KS; one sister Bobbie Barbee of Lula, MS and several grand children and great-grand children.

Funeral Services will be held at the New Song Baptist Church in Williford at 10:00AM on Thursday, June 10, 2010 with Bro. Blake Shaw officiating. Graveside service with military honors will be held in the Barbee Cemetery in Lula, MS at 2:00PM on Friday, June 11, 2010 with Bro. Byron Roberts Officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Heath Funeral Home of Highland where the family will receive friends from 6PM to 8PM on Wednesday June 9, 2010.

I worked with Joe at the chemical plant for many years and he was a good friend of mine. I am so sorry for his passing and wish Fay God's comfort and peace at this time.
